New Year Eve Fireworks in Stockholm
Are you interested in watching New year eve fireworks in Stockholm to welcome 2019?
Where does fireworks happen? It happens in many places in Central Stockholm. Last year, we watched them from Strömbron.
We could find official details of the locations here (Source: Visit Stockholm & Google Maps)
- The street Fjällgatan, the beautiful walking path Monteliusvägen and the highest natural point of Stockholm; Skinnarviksberget.
- The bridges Västerbron and Skanstullsbron.
- Skansen: Traditional celebration all evening. Singing, dancing, and fireworks.
- Skeppsbron, Slottsbacken, Strömbron, Blasieholmen, and Skeppsholmen towards the inlet, where the city's official fireworks will be displayed this year.

Some important key points to be considered:
- There will be a big queue and security check of people and bags near the location of celebrations.
- You can expect lot of people and crowd when time is close to mid night and also after fireworks are over. Hence, have patience and plan accordingly.
- You can plan for a late dinner or go for Ice skating in Kungsträdgården, if you go early.
- There will be loud music near the venue.
- You can seek help from volunteers or police, if required.
- Try to go in groups so that you can help each other and enjoy together rather than one or two people.

Buying a house or an apartment in Stockholm
Have you ever thought of buying a house or an apartment in Stockholm or Sweden?
Let us see what are the different parameters to be considered before buying!!
* Find your loan amount eligibility : This is the key factor to be found first to decide how much will be your house value that you are going to purchase.
You need to call your personal banker (if you have) or call loan department of your bank and ask them to provide you lånelöfte, it's also called as loan promise or Pre-approved loan.
This amount will be dependent majorly on following details but it might vary from bank to bank.
1. Monthly Income before tax
2. Applying sole or along with spouse (or co-applicant) as this will change Monthly Income!
3. Number of children and their age
4. Age of applicant
5. Employment Type (Self employed, part time or full time etc)
6. Loan history
Let us assume bank would come back to you with a loan promise of 3,000,000 (3 million SEK).
How long loan promise will be valid? Usually, it will be valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
How much cash do I need to have in hand to purchase? Usually, you should have minimum of 15% of loan amount, which means you should have 15% of 3 million = 4,50,000 SEK.
Are there any charges by Bank to calculate lånelöfte (or loan promise)? Usually, it's free but check with bank while applying for the same.

Where to find the available houses for sales?
Hemnet is the default site most buyers and sellers use.
It has search filters like Number of rooms, Area (in Sq Meter), House Type, Locality, Highest price.
You can also visit Real Estate Agent's websites such as Fastighetsbyran
What's Avgift? It's a monthly maintenance amount paid to Housing Association towards cleaning, community laundry, garbage collection, lift, common areas and any other facilities provided by them.
What are the other parameters to be considered while buying home?
- Read Association annual report
- Any upcoming projects in that area like new metro or any development projects coming up etc
- Community Laundry and how far/near from the flat you are going to buy. or Do you have own laundry or facility to set-up own laundry. Quite important factor during winter :-)
- Balcony is covered or not.
- How recently the house was renovated (if not renovated think about renovation cost!!!!)
- Furniture costs (or all set-up costs as empty house will be given by the owner in general)
- No need to move around houses frequently especially considering short term rentals in Stockholm
- Profit (if house value goes up!!!!!!!)
- Feeling of having own house and customization or decoration as you wish
- Searching for the schools for kids near by that area and no need to change frequently
- Loss (if house value goes down, unfortunately this is the trend currently in Stockholm)
- Might think so much if you have to travel distant areas for job or for schools for kids
- Incur house maintenance/repair or renovation expenses

Health Care in Stockholm, Sweden
Sweden has very good name for child health care. However, there is a general complaint by many that waiting times for consulting a doctor are huge and frustrating. Sometimes, we also feel that it's a quite complicated system to understand, if we don't know whom to consult and what to do.
We will try to address some of the FAQs in this post based on our and friends' real life scenarios and categorized the information accordingly.

FAQs
Is health care free entirely for kids? Yes, for the kids below 18 years. Some medicines are also given free but not all, cost varies based on the prescriptions such as Antibiotics for which we need to pay.
What are the general fees?
General physician - 200 sek per visit
Specialist visit - 350 sek per visit

What's the fee for missing visits? Yes, you have to pay the fee the same or double fee as penalty for missing doctor appointments unless you cancel them 12 or 24 hours before as per the timelines informed while booking an appointment. This is applicable for children appointment as well.
What are the fees for the people who are in Sweden through a visitor or tourist visa? If you are from a non-EU and non Switzerland citizen, then you need to pay the entire fee and reimburse the costs via home country insurance provider. You need to show the passport at the hospital for identification document.

What to do for Acute injuries or problems that can't be waited for scheduled appointment?
For these scenarios, you can visit Närakute centers (Acute or Emgergency center). They are open every day at 8 to 22 and include x-rays and sampling.

What to do in Emergency situation which needs immediate attention? You have to call 112 during emergency. Please read the guidelines here SOS Website to understand what's considered as emergency. Emergency number has facility to answer both in Swedish and English languages.
Family Doctor
We have not heard of Family doctor concept in Sweden until 2 years after we moved to Sweden. Luckily, one of our colleague has told us about this and he saved so much time for our family.
With Family Doctor clinics, entire family members can visit the same hospital. Big advantage is that there are walk-ins every day during week days at these clinics, hence no worry of waiting for a doctor appointment for so many days like other Vardcentrals. All you need to do is that fill in the registration forms and get a confirmation from them that you are registered with them and can start going to them.

However, some Family Doctor Clinics have very limited capacity, hence, they are not accepting any new registrations and you need to be in queue :-)
Online Apps
Although this sounds very weird and odd, but this is true! Yes, there are online mobile apps using which you can call doctors and have check-ups done via video call or get advice or suggestions. We have never used them so far but big advantage is to get Doctor help by just staying at home.

1177 is the default contact number everyone will come to know when they to move to Sweden and look for help for health related question.
We felt very weird first time when we had to call 1177 because we had to answer tonnes of questions asked by them.
